You brush your teeth morning and night, maybe even after meals if you are really good. You floss daily just like your parents always told you. But are you brushing your teeth properly? How can you tell?
Ask your dentist or hygienist! Don’t worry about feeling silly. Your dentist knows how important it is that you brush correctly and can give you some advice to make sure you are doing the best job possible.
Proper Brushing Technique
Brush a minimum of twice a day. This needs to be done for more than a few seconds. It should take you about two to three minutes to get everything.
Get your brush at a forty-five degree angle and run your toothbrush over your teeth lightly with repeated vertical strokes. This must be done lightly; you do not wish to harm your teeth or gums while you are doing it. Take the tooth brush and brush the inner part of your mouth where your back teeth are. If you find a crevice, softly put the bristles in it till you have managed to clean it out. Brush the back of your teeth. Now brush the roof of your mouth.
Use a tongue scraper to get anything that is still left behind. Wash your mouth out with some water and finish off by flossing for those challenging parts that a toothbrush can’t reach.
